A member of the National Human Rights Commission Dr. Prathibha Mahanamaheva said that the Commission is preparing to hold a National Inquiry on the practice of Human Rights in the island.

This Inquiry is aimed at obtaining the opinions of the general public, and several Commonwealth representatives had already trained local officials with this regard.

Dr. Mahanamaheva said that this Inquiry is also targeted to upgrade the current international human rights rating for Sri Lanka from “B’ status to “A” status.

He also pointed out that when resolutions are brought against Sri Lanka in Geneva, questions would be raised by UN authorities regarding the National Inquiry.
