Three more days remain for the acceptance of nominations on behalf of the upcoming provincial polls due to be held in country’s the North, North West & Central provinces.
The acceptance of nominations will commence on the 25th of this month and will conclude at 12 noon on the 1st of August.
Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya states that stringent security measures will be in place at relevant District Secretariats during the acceptance of nominations.
Polls in the countries North are being held after a lapse of more than 25 years.
Moreover according to Elections Coomissioner Mahinda Deshapriya security forces have been instructed to prevent demonstrations taking place subsequent to the accepting of nominations on the final day.
Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya says that foreign observers will be invited to monitor Provincial Council elections.
He said the South Asian Election Authorities Association and Asian Election Authorities Association have already been informed in writing.
In addition, Deshapriya said that he expects to invite Commonwealth Observers Association as well.
He also said that a decision has not yet been taken whether an invitation is extended to European Union Election Observers Association to monitor elections in the three provinces.
