Postal voting on the 9th and 10th of September: Code of ethics for candidates

The Elections Commissioner’s Office stated that the marking postal votes in the Northern, North Western and Central Provincial Council elections will be held on September 9 and 10.


An Election Commission spokesman stated that the notice to issue postal votes will be released today and the certification of postal voting lists will be held on 15th of this month.


The sealed sachets of postal voting cards will be handed over to the post office on 22nd of this month.


Meanwhile Election Commissioner issuing a code of conduct for the political parties and contestants stated that they should not intimidate in any institution that is engaged in maintaining law and order during the elections.


It also insists politicians to carry on their propaganda without, disturbing the daily routine of life and violating the existing law of the land.


Contestants should not smoke nor should they come to the polling stations and counting centers under the influence of liquor and narcotics.


Meanwhile SLFP General Secretary Minister Maithreepala Sirisena said that the government is ready to take legal action against those who violate election laws despite his or her individual status.
