Rathupas - wala soil report before 22nd.

Environmental Organizations claimed today that the controversial glove manufacturing factory which allegedly contaminated drinking water in Rathupaswala had released its toxic waste to Attanagalu Oya and nearby paddy fields.

Addressing a media conference organized by the Peoples Movement to assure the peoples right for free and pure drinking water, in Colombo this afternoon, its convener Ravindra Kariyawasam said, the soil waste had been sold for fertilizer.


However the glove factory Managing Director Mahesh Ranasoma said that the factory followed all rules set in the environmental permit issued to the company by the BOI.


Meanwhile a meeting to check the progress of tests of Rathupaswala water contamination that was undertaken by various institutions was held at the Gampaha Divisional Secretariat today.

The Geological Survey and Mining Bureau also began its laboratory tests on the Rathupaswala waters today.

Addressing a media briefing held in Colombo this afternoon, Bureau Deputy Director Dr. K.B.N. Prem said the complete report would be submitted to the respective authorities before the 22nd of this month.
