A discussion for briefing Kilinochchi District election candidates for the upcoming Northern Provincial Council election was held at the Kilinochchi District Secretariat yesterday.


Political party and Independent Group candidates contesting at the Northern Provincial Council election from the Kilinochchi District had been invited for this discussion.


Our correspondent said that accordingly party representatives including those from the UPFA, UNP, TNA as well as representatives of Independent Groups participated in the discussion.


Eleven political parties and two Independent Groups are scheduled to contest for the Northern Provincial Council from the Kilinochchi District.


Speaking on this occasion of briefing the candidates, Deputy Election Commissioner, M. A. Mohamed said that they should be abreast of knowledge about election regulations and election code of conduct.


Meanwhile expressing views at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday, MP Gayantha Karunathilleke said that candidates were using State property for election without a limit.
