Details of batches of milk powder to the Food advisory committee

Instructions have been issued for all details regarding batches of milk powder imported to Sri Lanka from September of 2012 till June of this year be provided to the Food Advisory Committee.


The cabinet subcommittee appointed at the request of Minister of Health Maithreepala Sirisena with regard to imported milk powder had convened day before yesterday and the committee had issued advice to the Food Advisory Committee regarding a number of decisions to be taken with regard to imported milk powder.


Accordingly a decision was taken to extend the temporary cancellation of all promotional activities with regard to imported milk powder products.


In accordance with this decision representatives of imported milk powder companies were summoned to the ministry of health and were brought up to date regarding the decisions taken to solve issues pertaining to milk powder.


A decision was also taken to issue a gazette notice with regard to the decision taken to stop all promotional activities with regard to imported milk powder due to the chemical DCD and the bacterium Clostridium botulinum being found in imported milk powder products.


The ministry of health stated that the Health Services Director General Dr. Palitha Maheepala has already issued instructions to the Consumer Affairs Authority to issue the gazette notice.
