Navaneedan Pillai questions regarding the newly established Ministry Law and Order.

UN Human Rights Commissioner Navaneedan Pillai who is in the island on a 7 day visit met the Chief Justice, the Attorney General and the Justice Minister today.


She arrived at the Hulfsdorp Court Complex about 8.30 this morning and had discussion with Chief Justice Mohan Peris at the latter’s office for about 2 hours.


Our correspondent said that the UN Human Rights Commissioner had also discussions with Attorney General Palitha Fernando at his office for about half an hour.


Later she had a discussion with Justice Minister Rauff Hakeem at the Justice Ministry Office in the Court Complex.


Justice Minister Rauff Hakeem stated that during the discussion with UN Human Rights Commissioner Navaneedan Pillai they discussed about steps taken towards reconciliation.


Navi Pillai had also queried regarding certain incidents that cropped up recently and the involvement of the Army and the Police.


Minister Hakeem said that the visiting Commissioner had also asked about the new Ministry of Law and Order that was established recently.

Subsequently Navi Pillai met with Minister of National LANGUAGES AND SOCIAL INTEGRATION Wasudewa Nanayayakkara.


The commissioner had questioned regarding the special parliamentary select committee appointed to solve the National issue.
