A UPFA Jaffna district candidate has filed a complaint to the elections commissioner regarding violation of election rules and regulations in the Northern Province elections.

UN Human rights commissioner Navi Pillai is scheduled to meet several political party leaders and candidates contesting for the elections.

The complainant points out that it is a disadvantage to the party and it violates election regulations.

However we inquired regarding this from the elections secretariat and a senior spokesperson stated that there are no guidelines in the elections act to address such issues.

Meanwhile, Elections commissioner requests not to organize propaganda rallies or public awareness meetings during voting in the Central, Northern and North Western provinces.

Elections commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya requests state institutions, non government organisations and private organisations to conduct such programmes after 28th September.

He points out that during such rallies if leaflets are distributed it violates election rules and regulations.
