UN Human rights Commissioner arrives in Jaffna.

UN Human rights High Commissioner Navaneethan pillai is currently on a tour of the Northern Province.


While the High Commissioner who arrived in the island on a seven-day tour, went to Jaffna last afternoon and toured the Jaffna Teaching Hospital as well.


Similarly the High Commissioner is also scheduled to hold discussions with several political representatives today.


Similarly during this tour the High Commissioner will also inquire about resettlements in the North.


During the tour of the country the UN human rights High Commissioner is scheduled to meet and hold discussions with several Government representatives including President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Minister Basil Rajapaksa, Defence Secretary Gotaabhaya Rajapaksa .


Similarly Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesighe will meet the high commissioner.


Furthermore civil organisation representatives too are scheduled to meet the High Commissioner and make representations.


Subsequent to this tour UN High Commissioner Navaneethan pillai is scheduled to make a statement at the Human Rights session held in September and to submit an extensive report about Sri Lanka at the HR conference held in March next year.
