4 individuals arrested in connection with the Bangladeshi Monk s murder

The police states that 4 individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder of the Bangladeshi Buddhist Monk who was a resident of the Rajagiriya – Welikada – Kalapaluwawa Sri Sudarshanarama Temple.


Upon an inquiry by our news team, a senior police officer in charge of the Nugegoda region stated that two police teams have been deployed to carry out further investigations regarding the murder.


The police also stated that several statements were obtained from families living around the temple as well.


The Bangladeshi monk named Milton Barua, was brutally assaulted by a group of individuals who had broken into the temple on the 20th of this month and the thero was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital for treatment where the thero succumbed to his injuries.


Speaking to our news team the chief incumbent of the Welikada – Kalapalu wawa Sri Sudarshanarama Temple venerable Uduwitiye Anuruddha Thero stated that the late thero had left the temple several months ago after staying at the temple.

Speaking further Anuruddha thero stated that although the late thero did not have legal permission he had visited the temple of several occasions subsequently and was assaulted during one such visit.




Although a clear motive for the murder has not been found yet, investigations are being carried out along several avenues.


The autopsy on the late thero’s body is scheduled to be carried out at the Colombo National Hospital today.
