Calls for an international inquiry may continue if local inquiry on war is not successful - Navy Pillai

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navy Pillai says that if the local investigations in to the war do not yield results, calls for an international inquiry will continue.


She expressed these views at a media briefing that was held today at the end of her 7 day tour to Sri Lanka.




She also stated that the implementation of the recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission would open up doors for coexistence.




The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navy Pillai also toured the areas in which the humanitarian operation unfolded and expressed views on the development in those areas.




She also stated that certain groups tried to label her as an LTTE sympathiser.




She thanked the government for allowing her to visit any area freely but mentioned 2 obstacles.




During her visit the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navy Pillai also met with the President, Opposition Leader and many more representatives of Political parties and civil organizations.
