Foreign observers to arrive in SL today.

The election secretariat states that foreign observers who will be monitoring the upcoming Provincial Council election will be arriving in Sri Lanka from today.


A spokesperson at the election secretariat stated that 20 observers from the South Asian Election Officials Association will be arriving in Sri Lanka and that they will meet with the Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya day after tomorrow.


The group 20 observers will be comprised of 10 Indian and Pakistani observers, 4 Bangladeshi observers and 1 each from Maldives and Nepal.


In addition one observer each from Afghanistan and Bhutan will also arrive in the island and India will be providing the leadership for this group.


A senior spokesperson of the election secretariat stated that former Indian elections commissioner M. Gopalaswami and the Maldivian elections commissioner Mohammed Farook will accompany the group.
