Kalutara Additional Magistrate Ayesha Ahabdeen ordered today to shift the all inmates of the Payagala Jayanthi Children Development Center to five alternative places.

The Additional Magistrate issued this order after considering a police report that recorded the child inmates of this center were abused and harassed by its caretaker.

Payagala police said that the suspected caretaker of this children home which is operated under the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress at Pambe in Payagala has already fled the area.

However, several child inmates of this Center had escaped at previous occasions, complaining that they were sexually abused and assaulted by the same caretaker.

Police and the Child Protection Authority filed submissions at the Court today considering the danger to the inmates of this children center.

The lawyers appearing for the Jayanthi Children Development Center informed the Court that the Center will be restored to a proper level, so requested the Court not to remove the children and prevent media from exposing this incident as well.

Having rejected the plea, the Additional Magistrate ordered to relocate 24 children to alternative places while returning 6 others to their guardians.

The Magistrate also ordered to submit the Court a report on the children on the 26th of this month.
