The UNP questions the government today whether it is going to take up visiting UN Human Rights chief Navaneedan Pillay’s statement over the Buddhist flag and the Statue of D.S. Senanayake.

Reports stated that Pillay asked the government to remove the Buddhist flag and the statue of country’s first Prime Minister D.S. Senanayake from the Independent Square premises.

The Opposition Leader also recently asked the UN Human Rights Chief to clarify her position over her controversial statement.

UNP Media Spokesman MP Gayantha Karunatilaka addressing a media briefing in Colombo today asked whether the government is going to take up the matter at diplomatic level during the Geneva Human Rights sessions.
