The Health Minister has appointed a committee to make recommendations to solve the existing drug shortage.

A temporary drug shortage was reported after the Ministry ordered to remove several substandard drugs from the market recently.

Officers attached to the National Pharmaceutical and Cosmetics Authority, Pharmaceutical Supplies Division, State Pharmaceutical Corporation and several other drug purchasing and distributing institutions hold membership in this Committee.

The Health Ministry ordered to remove 122 drug varieties supplied by 4 Indian companies after the imports were found to be substandard.

Meanwhile the Health Minister has instructed Provincial Health Services Directors and Regional Health Services Directors to check whether the retrieved drugs are used in government and private hospitals or sold by pharmacies.
