A change has been made in the counting of votes of the provincial council election that is currently underway.

Elections commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya stated that the new method is being tried out as a trial.

Elaborating on the new method the elections commissioner stated that ballot boxes will not be sent in sequential order to counting centers, rather one ballot box from each region will be sent to each counting center.

He further stated that while this method will be tried out in all electorates in certain districts, in other districts this method will be employed in only one electorate as it is a trial.
