President Mahinda Rajapakse states that providing the public of the North, who were hostages of terrorists, with a peaceful election is a victory while issuing a statement regarding the election victory in the North Western, Central and Northern provincial council election.

This election is an occasion that strengthened the democracy of the country.

The political parties in the North who were under terrorist control are enjoying freedom and happiness today and the thousands of youth in the security forces who sacrificed their lives to obtain this freedom should be remembered at this moment.

Hence it is important for all to let go of narrow extremist ideas and come together to develop the motherland.

President Rajapakse also requested from all parties to come together in the face of the challenges the country faces.
