Prime Minister D.M. Jayarathna says that the UPFA’s early decision to appoint the candidate who secures the highest number of preferential votes to the posts of Chief Ministers remains unchanged.

Accordingly, Prime Minister’s son Anuradha Jayarathna and Dayasiri Jayasekera will be appointed as chief ministers of the Central and the North Western Provincial Councils respectively.

A communiqué released by the Prime Minister’s Office stated that there is no truth in certain media reports published with regard to the Central Provincial Chief Minister post.

The Prime Minister’s communiqué has given an extensive introduction to Anuradha Jayarathna who secured the highest number of preferential votes in the election.

The Prime Minister quoted the people in the province as saying that Anuradha Jayarathna should be appointed to the Chief Minister post in the Central Provincial Council.

The Premier Office communiqué also quoted Prime Minister Jayarathna as saying during a public gathering at his Gampola Doluwa residence that his son Attorney-at-law Anuradha Jayarathna was politically close to the people.
