2000 dog bites per day.

The rabies division of the health Ministry states that 2000 dog bites are reported per day.


On average 50 deaths are reported per year due to rabies and the health Ministry points out that there is a considerable increase over the past couple of years.


According to the rabies division there are about 3 million stray dogs in Sri lanka.


The government spends 50 million rupees per annum for rabies vaccinations.
