UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navaneedan Pillay re-stated that an international investigation against Sri Lanka should be held if it fails to implement the LLRC recommendations before March next year.

In an interview with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Pillay reiterated that the responsibility of the Sri Lanka government is to implement the LLRC recommendations without failure before March next year.

Addressing the UN Human Rights Council sessions last week Pillay said that the responsibility of the international community is to initiate credible investigations unless Sri Lanka’s LLRC recommendations fall short of the Council expectations.

However Pillay’s oral statement on Sri Lanka at the Human Rights Council sessions was refuted by Sri Lankan UN permanent representative in Geneva Ravinath Ariyasinghe.
