UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has agreed to submit the proposal by the Maha Sangha to the party Central Working Committee.

The United Bhikku Front proposed recently to appoint a 9-member Leadership Consultancy Board to advise the UNP.

A meeting to discuss the issue was presided by the United Bhikku Front patron Girambe Ananda Thera at the Polwatta Dharmakeerthyarama in Kolpetty this morning.

During the meeting with the United Bhikku Front representatives, UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has told them that he would submit the proposal to the party Central Committee for discussion on October 7 and inform its stand thereafter.

Meanwhile, UNP parliamentarian Karu Jayasuriya has informed the party leadership that he cannot accept membership of the party working committee citing that if only he accepts it when others have lost membership in the party working committee, it would create hard feelings amongst others.

However, he has also informed the party leadership that he is prepared to work for the party’s victory.

Reports stated that the party leadership had approved a letter regarding the resignation of UNP national organizer Daya Gamage and Treasurer Senarath Kapukotuwa.

Upon inquiry by our news team, media spokesperson of the UNP MP Gayantha Karunathilaka stated that no such activity has taken place as of now.
