UPDATE:Video: Drug racket leads to Dematagoda murder

Preliminary police investigations have revealed that the motive behind yesterday’s shooting incident at the Kelaniweli Railway level crossing near Baseline road in Dematagoda was a dispute between two drug peddling groups.

27-year old Sajith Priyadarshana Karunarathna of Serpentine Road Borella died in the shooting that took place at 11.45 last night.

Police stated that an unidentified group in a van had shot at the vehicle in which the victim was traveling in along with 3 others.

Police Acting Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana stated that the 3 accomplices of the victim had fled during the shooting.

Later police recovered 2 swords and a loaded gun in the vehicle used by the victim.

The CID and the Dematagoda police are conducting further investigations into the incident.

Shooting on baseline road - one dead.

A 27-year old person was killed in a shooting that occurred on Baseline Road in Dematagoda.


The police said that an unidentified gang  which had been near the Kelanivalley Railway Crossroad had shot at the person concerned and three others when they were traveling in a motor vehicle at about 11.45 last night.


On that occasion while one person was killed the other three in the vehicle had fled.

The person killed was a resident of in the vicinity of Serpentine Road in Borella.


No one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
