The Democratic Party states that it believes that the Kandy district election result which was announced during the recently concluded Provincial Council election is genuine.

The general secretary of the Democratic Party, Ananda Manawadu made this statement in response to the petition filed by 9 Kandy district candidates of the party in the Appeals Court, requesting a recount of the preferential votes of the Kandy district.

During the previous provincial council election, the Democratic Party won two seats in the Kandy district with the two candidates Asanka Thillakarathne and C. A. Galappaththi winning the seats.

The petition had requested the appointment of the two candidates be cancelled in addition to counting the preferential votes again.

Our news team inquired from the department of elections regarding this.

In response, the deputy elections commissioner M. M. Mohammed stated that the department of elections has not yet received a complaint from the Democratic Party regarding the election results of the Kandy district.
