Video: Treatment to cure Thalassemia

Doctors in Sri Lanka have turned their attention towards introducing a method utilized by developed countries in the world to cure Thalassemia.


Currently Thalassemia patients are being administered treatment to control the disease and doctors state that using the new method the illness can be cured for good.


Dr. Kalinga Nanayakkara, who is a specialist that is carrying out tests regarding Thalassemia, stated that the facilities to conduct bone marrow transplants in Sri Lanka is not sufficient.


However, he stated that attention has been turned towards introducing the treatment to Sri Lanka.



More than 500 thousand Thalassemia carriers are reported in Sri Lanka with a majority of them found in the Kurunegala district.
