The Health Ministry says that a special programme has been launched for protecting the teeth of the people of this country.
Dental Health Services Deputy Director General Dr. Jayasundara Bandaara said that according to the World Health Organisation standard at the age of 80 a person’s mouth should retain at least 20 teeth.
However by the age of 65 only about 13 teeth remain in the mouth of a person in this country.
The Deputy Director General said that as a result of this a special programme had been launched for the prevention of the decay of teeth.
Dental Health Services Deputy Director General Dr. Jayasundara Bandaara also said further that the programme was being implemented targeting at school children.
