Customs destroys the contraband of birth control injections

The Customs today destroyed the contraband of birth control injections that were concealed in a container of potatoes and brought to the island on the 27th of April this year.


The customs arrested the Pakistani national who attempted to import and release a stock of 30,000 illegal birth control jabs worth nearly 30 million rupees.


Director of Customs Revenue Surveillance Unit Mali Piyasena said a 500 thousand rupee fine was imposed on the suspect and he was referred for necessary legal action.


Meanwhile a Muslim resident of Kalmunai who arrived from Chennai was arrested yesterday for smuggling nearly 3200 pills used for abortion.
