The Power and Energy Ministry announced today that the operation of the Norochcholai Coal Power plant is shut down despite opening just a few days ago.

Norochcholai was kept closed for maintenance work during the last 2 months.

A spokesman attached to the Coal Power plant stated that the plant was closed down again after a technical failure developed in its water supply network at 4pm today.

Meanwhile Power and Energy Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi participated in an inspection tour in the plant yesterday and instructed officials regarding the 2nd Phase of the Coal Power Plant.

However Lanka Electricity Workers Association pointed out that the negligence in the part of respective Electrical engineers is the main cause to today’s breakdown of the plant.

Meanwhile a spokesman of the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant said that the operation of the plant was restored half an hour following its breakdown.
