According to Indian media reports Premier Manmohan Singhe is likely to participate at the Commonwealth heads of government meeting in Sri lanka and according to the Supreme council of the Indian Congress participating in CHOGM will be his final decision.

The Prime Minister considering that it is in India's strategic interests to keep good relationships with neighbour countries has reportedly taken a decision to attend the summit following a meeting of the Congress core committee.

According to the Times of India report the committee in some detail has evaluated pros and cons of the Prime Minister attending the meeting in Colombo and decided that the benefits outweigh the political fallout from the Tamil parties.

Report states that deciding to attend the CHOGM in Sri Lanka when the Tamil Nadu assembly unanimously passed a resolution against India's participation in the summit at any level was not easy for the Indian Prime Minister.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said a process has been set in motion to arrive at a decision on the level of Indian participation in the Commonwealth Heads of Governments Meeting in Colombo from November 15th.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said they are taking into consideration all aspects of national interest, foreign policy priorities and international obligations.
