The police arrested the driver of the SLTB bus concerned in connection with the fall of the bus into a precipice in Maapitiya on the Bandarawela – Poonaagala Road killing 10 persons.

While the 41 year old SLTB bus driver injured in this accident received treatment at the Diyathalaawa hospital, he was released from hospital yesterday.

Subsequently the police arrested him.

He was produced before the Bandarawela magistrate court and remanded till 18th this month.

Death toll in the Bandarawela - Mapitiya accident increases to 10, 18 injured.


10 passengers died and 18 were injured when a SLTB bus plying on the Bandarawela - Punagala Road skidded and went down a precipice at 9th Mile post yesterday evening.

 

Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said the wounded were rushed to Bandarawela and Diyatalawa hospitals following the accident.

 

Police media spokesperson further stated that the accident occurred as a result of the negligence of the bus driver.
