The Supreme Court issued notice today on the Matara Police Headquarters Inspector and the OIC of its Crime Division ordering them to appear before the Court on the 30th of May next year.

The Court issued the notice after considering a petition filed by an unofficial Magistrate and Attorney-at-law Rajika Prasadini Wijetunga.

Wijetunga claimed that the Crime Division OIC scolded her in abusive language when she took a suspect to police station for surrender on the 27th of May this year and thereby violated her fundamental rights.

Rajika Prasadini Wijetunga is also the Matara District Co-coordinating officer of the Legal Aid Commission.

Having offered her service free of charge to a suspect, Wijetunga describes to our news team of the embarrassment she had to face in front of the police.

Later Rajika Prasadini Wijetunga filed a fundamental rights case on the instructions of the Sri Lanka Bar Association.

Having considered the petition, the Court decided to examine it and issued notice on the particular police officers to appear in Court.
