The Government always acts fairly towards all; Minister Nimal Siri pala tells Yashushi Akaashi

Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva says that no other country in the world had taken the steps the Sri Lankan Government had adopted for bringing about reconciliation after concluding the war.

The Minister said so when he met Japanese Government’s senior diplomat Yashushi Akaashi yesterday who is currently on a five-day official visit to the island.

Minister de Silva said that the Sri Lankan government treats all citizens in an equal manner and do not bow to the threats extended against Sri Lanka.

He stressed that the policy of the Sri Lankan government is to cooperate with all foreign countries while safeguarding the country's soveringty.

On this occasion the Minister also pointed out that, when dealing with foreign countries, it was the Sri Lankan Government policy to act in a manner that always cordial relationship as well as the country’s sovereignty was safeguarded.

In the presence of Yashushi Akaashi the Minister said that through the Northern Provincial Council election the Government was able to show to the international community the democracy existing in the country.

Yashushi Akaashi is scheduled to meet Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe tomorrow.
