Sri Lankan rupee weaker on importer dollar demand

The Sri Lankan rupee edged down yesterday as importer dollar demand surpassed mild exporter sales of the U.S. currency.

The spot rupee was between 145 rupees and 42 cents to 50 cents per dollar, slightly weaker from Tuesday’s close of 145 rupees and 38 cents to 43 cents.

One-week forwards were at 145 rupees and 65 cents to 75 cents, compared with the previous day’s close of 145 rupees and 60 cents to 70 cents.

The spot rupee is usually managed by the central bank, and market participants use the forward market levels for guidance on the currency.
