It has been revealed at the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) that a loss of Rs. 20 billion is incurred annually due to damage to vegetables and fruits.

An audit conducted by the National Audit Office in 2015 revealed that about 270,000 metric tonnes of vegetables and fruits are wasted annually.

This is due to the over-harvesting of some crops due to farmers cultivating according to their preferences.
