Figures released by the Statistics Department of the Central Bank revealed that Sri Lanka's inflation as measured by consumer prices in Colombo declined in December.

The inflation as measured by Colombo Consumers' Price Index decreased to 9.2 percent in December 2012 from 9.5 percent in previous month.

The decline was mainly attributed to the price decreases in the Food category.

However, the annual average inflation rate rose to 7.6 per cent in December 2012 from 7.2 per cent in November 2012.
