Goods importers state that the depreciation of the rupee set against the US dollar may cause an increase in the price of imported consumer goods.

K. Nadan Secretary of the Essential Goods Importers Association states that due to the increased dollar rate, a higher price is being paid for imported goods.

These goods include onions, dhal, sugar, rice, canned fish & milk powder.

Hence the price of essential consumer goods may be subject to increase in the future.
