The met department states that the Windy and showery condition in the South-western part of the island is expected to enhance to some extent.

There is a possibility for sudden increases in wind speeds of up to 70 to 80 kilo meters per hour over the island particularly in the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, North-Central, North-western, Northern and Central provinces and in the Trincomalee district.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and North-western provinces.

Heavy falls above 100 millimetres are likely at some places in the Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Kaluthara districts.

Meanwhile, landslide warnings have been issued on some vulnerable areas of the districts of Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura and Kegalle.

This warning would be in force for Kuruwita, Eheliyagoda, Elapatha and Kiriella Divisional Secretariat Divisions of the Ratnapura District and Bulathkohupitiya, Deraniyagala, Yatiyantota and Dehi Ovita Divisional Secretariat Divisions of the Kegalle district for the next 24 hours beginning from 4 pm today.

Meanwhile, two spill gates each of Lakshapana reservoir and Canyon reservoir were opened today due to the prevailing heavy rain in the area.

The Disaster Management Center stated that consequent to this, the water level of the Kelani River has risen.

At the same time, our correspondents stated that the Wimalasurendra reservoir is still overflowing.

Meanwhile, The Irrigation Department has issued a flood warning for the areas surrounding Kalu, Gin and Kelani River.

Kalu Ganga from Ratnapura, Gin Ganga from Thawalama and Kelani Ganga from Deraniyagala and Kitulgala has reached the alert levels according to the department.

Accordingly, the people living in low lying areas are advised to be vigilant.
