President explains the reason for increase in poverty

President Maithripala Sirisena said that the main reason for poverty to increase among rural people, is drugs.

The President pointed out that the government implemented an extensive programme against drugs due to this reason.

President Sirisena also said that in order to build a good country in the future, a village devoid of drugs should be built.

He expressed these views on the occasion of vesting in the people the Palugaswewa Asirigama Gramashakthi village which was developed.
