The Meteorology Department issues a red warning

The Meteorology Department stated  that thundershowers will develop at several places in the evening or night time in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and the districts of Galle, Matara, Anuradhapura and Mannar.

Heavy rainfalls of upto 100 mm is expected in some districts with thunderstorms expected to generate windspeeds of 70 to 80 kmph per hour.

The department of Meteorology issued the following  statement.
