Residents of the area alleged that though the crematorium was built near the Katiya junction, closer to the town of Eppawala to meet the needs of many areas including Thambuththegama, Thalawa and Eppawala, no bodies were cremated at the premises.

This is due to the fact that the construction of the cremation chamber is still unfinished.

Residents point out that the building that was built for the crematorium was now covered with overgrown and had become the place for many offensive activities.

The people of the area are requesting the authorities not to obstruct the activities being carried out for the benefit of the people by allocating hundreds of thousands of rupees.

The Red Minute will remain vigilant until the authorities pay due attention to this request of the residents of Eppawala.
