The Kalutara Municipal Council has taken steps to demolish unauthorised shops in Kalutara last night.

The traders alleged that the Municipal Council unjustly demolished their shops in the absence of the owners. With the protection of the Kalutara South Police, the Kalutara Municipal Council had taken action last night to demolish unauthorized shops.

Municipal Council Chairperson Ameer Naseer stated that a shopping complex was built by spending thousands of rupees, and was given to these traders, but they have left the shopping complex premises to operate out of these illegal shops.

The Chairman says that it is an issue for the security as well as the beauty of the city.

The traders alleged that there are a number of shortcomings in the shopping complex. However, the traders accuse that the relevant authorities had demolished these shops in the night when no one was around.
