Friday, 30 October 2020 - 13:01

The office of the Senior DIG in charge of the Western Province stated that while 893 persons are undergoing quarantine procedures at quarantine centres, 43 police officers have contracted coronavirus.

Another police officer attached to the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) was also identified as a COVID patient, increasing the number of CCD officers that contracted coronavirus to 16. In addition, five more officers who are suspected to be infected with the virus were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.

It was revealed that one of the CCD officers that contracted the virus was attached to the police unit of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry probing Easter Sunday terror attacks, and had visited the Commission chambers where the hearing takes place.

A spokesperson for the police unit established at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall stated that due to the above reason the proceedings of the Presidential Commission probing Easter Sunday attacks as well as the Presidential Commission of Inquiry probing alleged incidents of political victimisation which is held in the same vicinity have been halted.

Meanwhile, a woman alleges that the health authorities have not transferred her COVID-positive husband to a hospital.

Speaking to the Hiru News team, the woman who is a resident of the Kiripattiya in Ihala Bomiriya, Kaduwela stated that her husband had recently visited the Peliyagoda fish market and was diagnosed with the virus. However, since the relevant authorities have not arrived to transfer him to a hospital, he has been spending the nights in the three-wheeler at home.
