Wonder Woman 1984 to debut on HBO Max on Christmas Day

The Warner Bros studio stated that the long-awaited superhero movie ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ will debut in US theaters and on HBO Max streaming platform simultaneously on Christmas Day.

The film is set to show in theaters outside the US where HBO Max is not available from 16 December.

On a blog post shared, WarnerMedia Chief Executive Jason Kilar called the move to offer the film in homes and theaters at the same time, ‘unprecedented.’

Typically, the movies are played exclusively in cinemas for roughly 75 days before they are available elsewhere.

The sequel to the 2017 hit ‘Wonder Woman’ starring Gal Gadot, ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ has been originally scheduled for June 2020.

However, many of the summer blockbusters have been delayed to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

‘Wonder Woman 1984’ Director Patty Jenkins who pushed for a theatrical release, supported the new plan, writing on Twitter, “At some point, you have to choose to share any love and joy you have to give, over everything else.”

“We truly hope that our film brings a little bit of joy and reprieve to all of you this holiday season,” she added.
