G20 Summit: Trump criticise the Paris Climate accord

Monday, 23 November 2020 - 12:47

Speaking during the virtual session of the G20 summit focused on safeguarding the environment, US President Donald Trump had criticised the Paris Climate accord.

President Trump’s speech that has been pre-taped from the White House called the 2015 Paris agreement "one-sided" and claimed that it has been designed to inflict ruin on the US economy.

He stated, “The Paris accord was not designed to save the environment, it was designed to kill the American economy.”

"I refuse to surrender millions of American jobs and send trillions of American dollars to the world's worst polluters and environmental offenders, and that's what would have happened," Trump continued in the speech that has been recorded from the Diplomatic Room.

President Trump announced the withdrawal from the 2015 Paris agreement in his first year of presidency.

However, this is likely to be Trump’s final appearance in an international summit following the US Presidential Election.

Meanwhile, Joe Biden has announced that after the swearing-in as the 46th US President, he hopes to re-enter the Paris Climate accords.
