Two persons have been arrested on suspicion of possessing 372 US dollar notes worth Rs. 68.82 million on a tip off received by the Kantale Police Special Bureau.

A team of officers from the Kantale Divisional Crime Investigation Unit was able to nab the two persons on the Kantale Lake bund on the afternoon of the 23rd under the pretext of buying dollar notes.

Police said the suspects were in possession of 372 counterfeit US $ 100 notes, one of whom was a former LTTE intelligence officer posing as a Tamil and later a Muslim.

Police say that it has been revealed during interrogation that these counterfeit dollar notes have been printed in a place in the Anuradhapura area for some time.

The two suspects are due to be produced before the Kantale Magistrate's Court today (24).
