The Principals' and Teachers' Union has forwarded a letter to the President requesting him to close all schools in the country until January 2021.

In the letter forwarded to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, they point out that principals and teachers report to work during this time to protect their job and not because they lack any fear for the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris speaking at a media briefing held at the Government Information Department stated that a decision regarding the General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) Examination set to be held in January 2021 would be taken in the next few days.
