The Meteorology Department stated that the depression area in the south-east Bay of Bengal has concentrated into a deep depression and lay centered 460 km southeast of Trincomalee at 1130hrs today (01).

The system is very likely to move west-northwestwards and cross the eastern coast of Sri Lanka between Batticaloa and Point-Pedro around Wednesday (02) evening or night.
Accordingly, the Disaster Management Centre requested the fishing and naval communities in the sea areas around the island not to venture into the sea until further notice.

Meanwhile, Governor of the Eastern Province Anuradha Yahampath stated that all schools in the Eastern Province will be closed for three days from tomorrow (02) to next Friday (04) in accordance with the announcement made by the Meteorological Department that a cyclone will enter the Eastern Coastal Zone within the next 24 hours.
The Governor said that the decision was taken as schools would have to be used as IDP camps for the people affected by the cyclone.
