V.K. Sasikala released from jail

Close aide of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, V.K. Sasikala was released from the Bengaluru jail after spending four years over a corruption case.

The 66-year-old was formally released from the Bengaluru's Parappana Agrahara after jail and is set to complete another five to five day stay at the Victoria Hospital due to a COVID infection.

Sasikala was in prison since February 2017 along with Ilavarasi and late Jayalalithaa's foster son V.N. Sudhakaran in connection with the Rs 66 crore disproportionate assets case.

Sasikala was charged with hatching a criminal conspiracy with Jayalalithaa, with whom she was closely associated, and amassing wealth disproportionate to the known source of her income.
