The Kelaniya CID has arrested eight persons, including six foreigners, in connection with an organized money laundering racket this afternoon.

This was during an investigation into a fraudulent extortion of Rs. 1.7 million from a person claiming to release a parcel that arrived at the customs from abroad.

The Kelaniya CID stated that a Sri Lankan account holder residing in the Battaramulla area was first arrested.

Six foreigners and another Sri Lankan national have been arrested in Mt. Lavinia following their interrogation.

Among the foreign nationals arrested were four Nigerians and two Russian women.

The Kelaniya CID stated that 25 grams of heroin was found in the suspects' possession at the time of their arrest.

Further investigations into the incident are ongoing.
