His Holiness Pope Francis has left the Vatican for his first visit to Iraq.

This is the 84-year-old pope's first visit to war-torn Iraq.

During this historic visit, he will visit some of the world's oldest and most declining Iraqi Christians, as well as meet with Ayatollah Ali Sistani, the country's Islamic cleric.

The Pope's four-day visit, dubbed the Pilgrimage to Peace, is his first foreign trip since the outbreak of the global coronavirus pandemic.
