Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed State Minister Ajith Nivard Cabraal to discuss with the State Banks and the Central Bank the possibility of obtaining loans in rupees instead of dollars from state banks for the Petroleum Corporation.

This was during the first meeting of the Cabinet Sub-Committee appointed today to replenish the kerosene subsidy and to revise the port and airport development tax on crude oil.

The Prime Minister also instructed to look into the possibility of providing the kerosene subsidy directly to the target beneficiaries including farmers and fishermen without misusing it.
